Food distribution
volumes, windows, recurrence

In food distribution, rounds come back every week but are never the same. Travia starts from real orders, delivery windows and temperature constraints, and rebuilds a day that can be driven.

The constraints of the trade

What weighs on every day

01

Tight delivery windows

Docks open for two hours, goods receiving closed in the morning, customers who accept nothing after a certain time: the window dictates the order of the round.

How Travia handles them

Windows as hard constraints

Each customer’s delivery windows are calculation constraints. The plan keeps the time or reports the customer who cannot be served within their window.

02

Temperatures and compartments

Chilled, frozen, ambient: what may travel together, and in which compartment, limits how orders are assigned to vehicles.

How Travia handles them

Load compatibilities

Temperatures and compartments are stored per vehicle and per order. An order is only assigned to a suitable vehicle.

03

Recurring rounds that need adjusting

The Tuesday round has existed for years. Volumes change every week and the round no longer fits, without anyone noticing.

How Travia handles them

Standard rounds adjusted to volumes

Recurring rounds serve as a basis; the engine adapts them to the week’s orders instead of freezing them.

04

Returns and deposits

Returnable containers, product returns, roll cages to collect: the way back counts as much for vehicle capacity as the way out.

How Travia handles them

Returns within capacity

Returns and deposits are counted in the vehicle load throughout the round, not only at departure.

What you measure

The real-day test

Windows met
Share of deliveries planned within the customer’s window, compared with the real day.
Kilometres
Total distance of the rebuilt day, with and without temperature constraints.
Vehicle utilisation
Volume and compartments used per vehicle, round by round.
Planning time
Time spent building the weekly plan, compared with recalculation and approval.
Sector questions

Before you send us a day

Does Travia know our customers and their hours?

They are imported during the design phase from your ERP or customer file, with their delivery windows. Special hours are then maintained in Travia or in your system, as you prefer.

How are fixed rounds that some customers require handled?

A round or a stop order can be locked. The engine then optimises whatever remains free around those constraints.

Is proof of delivery captured?

Yes: photo, signature, reservations and measured temperatures can be attached to each delivery in the driver app, depending on configuration.

What if we tested Travia
on a real day?

Send us your current rounds. We reproduce your constraints and compare the results with your current organisation.
